The reason we should always use citations
We should always use citations because if we don't it is easy for any of us to commit plagiarism. Plagiarism is very easy to do as we do our discussion posts and our papers. I do not feel that any of us would intentionally commit plagiarism but, whether we do it intentionally or accidentally there are very serious punishments for this. It would not be right for any of us to take the credit for someone else's hard work as we would not like it one bit if we were to bust our behinds and have someone else come along and take credit for our hard work. I think that it is good to have named this particular thing as I am sure that it does go on a lot. It takes some time to do a good paper and if you take the time and pride in your paper then pay close attention to what you are using and how it is being worded. If you take something word for word you should always use quotations followed by the actual author's name to avoid being hit with plagiarism. I am sure that I am not alone when I say that it would really devastate me if I was to work so hard on my papers only to find out that someone has stolen what I have put so much time and hard work into. There is an old saying and that is "do unto others as you would have done to you". So to put that in simple terms if you would not like for your hard work to be stolen then do not steal someone else's hard work. If you use something from someone make sure you take the time to give them the credit that they have earned. Kaplan has some serious consequences when a student is caught doing plagiarism as should all schools. My daughter is in the 6th grade and they never had APA in school back when I went but I had to help my daughter use APA format on one of her papers and I think that is great. I am currently working with both my children on teaching them the correct form of APA.
